About Horse & Country
Launched in 2007, H&C can be found on SKY 280 and horseandcountry.tv. New investors bought into the company in December last year and began to implement a cross platform strategy that seeks to satisfy audiences wherever they choose to enjoy H&C – be that on TV or on the web.
At the centre of the new strategy is the newly launched horseandcountry.tv. The site features a plethora of on-demand video, exclusive celebrity and country interest blogs, daily news and supporting articles. Our extensive Events database allows users to upload and promote their own events and to search for events to attend.
In addition to our site, we also have a vibrant Facebook community with almost 26,000 fans.
About our audience
As with any new website, we are striving to build our traffic and user base, and the stats indicate we are heading in the right direction. The site currently received 200,000 PVs+/month and 60,000 visits. Recent stats show 140,000 video request per month and 35,000+ unique visitors. Part of the developer role is to help the editorial team boost this traffic.
About this role
Horseandcountry.tv is still in its infancy and further development is underway. The Developer is responsible for the performance of the site, the continued development and for ensuring any problems are fixed quickly and effectively.
The web team currently consists of a Senior Editor, a Producer/Designer and an editorial and syndication assistant. Prior to this new role being created, a part-time technical development consultant was contracted and will be available to provide a handover. As with all small teams, it is essential for all members to be strong team players with a willingness to work until the job is done. Due to the nature of our business, occasional weekend working is required.
The Developer is called on to:
* Monitor site performance and ensure the site runs as effectively and quickly as possible * Build new elements of the site * Amend existing elements of the site to suit design changes and business requirement * Restore the site if it fails quickly and efficiently * Advise on future development work * Work with third party companies and agencies to secure the integration of new content feeds/content items * Manage the server relationship and ensure we remain within contractual agreements in terms of storage and bandwidth, while ensuring we opt for most cost effective solutions * Ensure any development of the site is undertaken with SEO in mind * Support the Senior Editor, Producer/Designer and editorial and syndication assistant to ensure deadlines and business objectives are met * Provide input into company-wide technology solutions, including the automated generation of performance reports.Key requirements
The successful candidate will be a strong team player with excellent organisation skills. He/she will be a good communicator who can work as a conduit of information across the business and keen to become an integral team member in a small company.
The successful candidate will have experience in the following technologies:
* Drupal 6, including custom theme and module development (essential) * PHP5, Linux, MySQL, Apache (essential) * Git and Bash (desirable) * Amazon EC2 (desirable) * Openx AdserverThe following is preferred for this role, but is not essential:
