Based right in the centre of Cardiff, Care Direct has created a suite of products to improve the quality of life of people who need additional support, helping them to stay independent at home and providing peace of mind. Think smart hubs for easy communication, ground-breaking wearables and unobtrusive home sensors that all link to a carer's smartphone. We're only a year into our journey but we've already raised a six-figure investment to bring our products to market, not to mention having attracted the attention of some big names within the sector and beyond. We're disrupting a stagnant market and we need forward thinking, ambitious developers to join us. This is a new role due to company expansion.

KEY TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• Javascript (ideally Typescript too); 
• React or React Native; 
• NodeJS; 
• MySQL/MariaDB; 
• Knowledge of a NodeJS framework (preferably NestJS)

RESPONSIBILITES

• You'll develop new features in collaboration with the rest of the team. You will also be required to complete tasks solely on your own.
• You'll improve our current features alongside the rest of the team, putting forward ideas and improvements to increase output for this and future versions and products.
• You'll learn, collaborate with and teach other Developers, working closely within a team of various skills and abilities. You will be able to demonstrate coaching skills and the ability to review objectives
• You'll fix issues from within the issue tracker. These are typically bugs listed in an issue tracker with an attached severity and priority label. Informing managers and colleagues of any key data issues etc. is paramount to ensuring an efficient operation.
• You will write high quality code to complete scheduled direction issues assigned by your manager and CTO.
• You'll contribute to and follow our workflow and processes, using your skills to improve both.
• You'll keep your managers and team informed of required and completed updates. 
• This role may occasionally involve travelling and/or presenting our products and services to existing and new customers. Being challenged will excite you.

 ADDITIONAL SKILLS

• Outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Working with test engineers to guarantee suitable coverage and executing manual test cases yourself where necessary.
• Participating in Agile/scrum activities (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives), striving to continuously improve the team's velocity and engineering practices.
• Mentoring junior members of the team and take a lead role for some of the above activities.

NICE TO HAVE

• MA in Engineering, Computer Science or similar relevant field
• BSc in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Information Security
• Being comfortable working with Linux/Servers    
• Experience in developing mobile apps in Java, Objective-C or Swift     
• HTML5, CSS (Sass), JavaScript including ES6+ and/or Python.
• Webpack, Git and NPM/Yarn would be of great benefit to the business.
• Regularly attends technology events, conferences and exhibitions.
