About the Role

The Content & Communications Co-ordinator assists the Comms and Design Co-ordinator in the development and growth of our social media and web presence.

The Content & Communications Co-ordinator will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our overall communications strategy and will be responsible for generating interactive and engaging content to promote our projects and activities across all of our campuses.

Purpose of the Content & Communications Co-ordinator.

This post-holder will work with the communications team, sabbatical officer team, Chief Executive, and others to ensure that the union is pro-active and dynamic with its communications. This is imperative during this complex time where guidance, rules, and general information change so quickly.

Creating exciting content from blogs to Instagram reels to engage, educate, and connect with students at UWTSD, this post will enhance our communication provision. There are some complicated things like academic regulation changes to relay which will need to be as accessible as possible to students; we're looking for someone to join our team to communicate topics like this clearly and succinctly.

Duties of the Content & Communications Co-ordinator

  • Work with the Comms & Design team to ensure the creation of high-quality, bilingual, cross-platform copy and assets.
  • Monitor, review, and create engaging content to ensure it is timely and relevant for students and other stakeholders
  • Supporting the Sabbatical Officers to deliver their projects and priorities through ongoing work with them to feed into the students’ union Project Board.
  • Create innovative opportunities for students to engage with the sabbatical officers as well as the union as a whole, by creating conversations with students about their experiences.
  • Grow the Students’ Union’s social media presence and influence, exploring new platforms and approaches.
  • Work with the Comms & Design team to enhance the established brand and tone of voice.

  • To support, advise and assist elected student officers in the achievement of their aims and objectives.
  • To discharge all relevant Health and Safety Responsibilities.
  • To adhere to all relevant Students’ Union Policies and Procedures.
  • To adhere to all relevant UWTSD Policies and Procedures.
  • To be adaptable to change and have an ability to acquire new and relevant skills and knowledge by taking appropriate responsibility for own personal and professional development.
  • To represent the Students’ Union at relevant professional networks, events and conferences.
  • To support and promote the Students’ Union’s values whilst undertaking duties, demonstrating commitments to equality, bilingualism, sustainability and democracy.

Personal Specification: Essential

  • Significant experience of writing engaging copy within an established tone of voice
  • Knowledge, experience, and understanding of growing social media channels
  • Ability to converse in Welsh at a least a conversational level
  • Strong communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with different types of people.
  • The ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues both internally and externally across large organisations.
  • Experience of successfully delivering project activity to meet set aims and objectives.
  • Commitment to finding innovative ways to interact with groups of people on a variety of issues.
  • Ability to work independently to plan and execute agreed project activity, as well as managing internal relationships to get the information you need to write content
  • Appropriate level of IT Skills (across typical social media platforms as well as packages like Buffer) and willingness to learn new software packages.
  • Analytical and questioning approach.
  • Willingness to accept additional responsibilities when requested.
  • Personal commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Personal Specification: Desirable

  • Experience of working in a Students’ Union.
  • Knowledge of WYSIWYG editors and HTML content
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent or possess equivalent experience.
  • A good understanding of the roles of Officers and Students’ Unions in HE institutions.
  • Ability to communicate fluently through the medium of Welsh, or a willingness to learn to the required level.
