Full-time Jammy Custard Animation in Cardiff

Start: May 2021 / Studio-based offering Remote options / Salary on experience

Jammy Custard Animation creates animated stories that stick. From our studio in the historic Cardiff Bay, we export our digital 2D animation to brands and agency partners across the world - and now we're looking for someone to help us push the boat out even further.

We're looking for an enthusiastic communicator and creative who wants to immerse themselves in a feel-good brand and take the opportunity to work with some world-renowned clients through our animation.

You'll be an After Effects wizard, someone who knows their way around the software, can contribute ideas and find solutions to make kick-ass animations within a tight schedule.

// Your role in our studio

  • A key member of the production team, taking on animation and design tasks as requested by the directors.
  • Design and adapt graphical assets ready for animation. This can include anything from characters to everyday objects and icons for motion graphics
  • Rig and animate characters – you will be familiar with rigging tools such as Rubberhose, Limber, DUIK and Joysticks N Sliders
  • Create snappy Motion Graphics
  • Enjoy the challenge of bringing ‘dry’ subjects to life
  • You may be required to work both collaboratively and independently on a project, potentially compiling most of the output
  • Conduct basic research or fact-finding missions for projects
  • Contribute ideas and provide feedback to the rest of the production team, and for Jammy Custard’s own projects
  • Help the team with basic quality-control checking
  • In exceptional cases, you may be required to take on the communication with clients, suppliers and partners during projects
  • On-location: from time-to-time, you may be asked to Meet & Greet visitors
  • On-location: Chip-in to make refreshments, maintain a great office environment (cleaning, watering plants, tidying)

  • Strong communicator who is friendly, presentable and happy to talk to ‘new’ people who expect professionalism
  • High English and numeracy skills
  • Will have a relevant college or university qualification in marketing, business or creative
  • Interested in the creative process and develop through our career paths within production
  • Super organised and punctual
  • Keen to learn and develop new skills
  • Naturally inquisitive and curious
  • Detail obsessive
  • Prepared to commit extra hours – sometimes unsociable – to meet deadlines when needed
  • Fun-loving but also knows when to work
  • Keen to put forward their ideas
  • Not afraid to ask for help
  • Sound knowledge of office software
  • Sound knowledge of Adobe Software (notably: After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Understand the principles of animation.
  • Familiar with using third party plugins and presets to improve their workflow

// How you can really level up

  • Experience working a similar role in an animation studio
  • Other creative skills such as writing or music
  • Super passionate about animation and film
  • Additional languages are great – Welsh in particular
  • Video editing skills (ideally using Premiere Pro)
  • Colour Grading skills
  • Super knowledge of other animation software and workflows
